This Morning paid tribute to the late Dr Michael Mosley today (June 10), after the TV doctor’s body was tragically found in Greece. The TV personality and health expert went missing five days ago, whilst holidaying on the island of Symi, in Greece.
Michael’s body was found on a hillside, near the Agia Marina beach bar, on Sunday (June 9).
Now, This Morning has paid tribute to their late colleague in heartfelt scenes.
This Morning pay tribute to late Dr Michael Mosley
Cat Deeley and Ben Shephard returned to our screens this morning, where they immediately paid tribute to the late Dr Michael Mosley.
As the This Morning intro rolled, the words: “Remembering Dr Michael Mosley”, flashed on screen. Cat and Ben then greeted viewers, before Ben detailed how the programme would be paying tribute to Dr Mosley.
He said: “I’m sure you know he has appeared on the show several times over the years. Tragically, his body was found yesterday after that five day search on the Greek island of Symi.”
They described how Michael was a much-loved member of the team and read out a heart-wrenching statement made by Michael’s wife, Dr Clare Bailey Mosley.
Cat said: “His wife Clare said: ‘It is devastating to have lost Michael, my wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband. We had an incredibly lucky life together. We loved each other very much and we were very happy together.’”
The presenters also explained that Dr Michael’s family had found great comfort in the fact that he had very nearly made it to his destination, where he could have found help.
Ben and Cat then handed over to a correspondent named David, live from the island of Symi. David had been on board the boat which spotted Dr Michael’s body.
The search for Michael began when his wife raised the alarm on Wednesday evening, when the 67 year old failed to return from a walk from Agios Nikolaos beach. David explained how Michael had been caught on CCTV twice during his journey.
Dr Phil Hammond pays tribute to Dr Michael Mosley
Ben and Cat were then joined by Michael’s colleague and friend Dr Phil Hammond. Phil discussed both his friendship and professional relationship with Michael.
“He was like an enthusiastic child,” Phil lovingly described. He went on to explain how Dr Michael Mosley professed some jaw-dropping facts, but could always back them up with science!
Dubbing him as “enthralling”, he also explained how followers of Dr Michael would turn up to his book signings to thank him for improving their health. He also detailed the “reach” and “communication” Michael had – leading him to change countless people’s lives.
Phil concluded that Michael’s legacy was his impact and ability to influence people to make small changes to their health. Ultimately, Michael’s teachings would often lead to “profound” results.
Tributes for Michael Mosley
This Morning doctor Dr Sara Kayat also chimed in: “He was an absolute pioneer in the terms of health care.” She went on to explain how Michael would break down complex information into “digestible” and “understandable” ways, to benefit others.
Gyles Brandreth stated how Michael’s work has impacted his everyday life. He said that due to Michel’s advice, every day, morning and night, he stands on one leg whilst brushing his teeth.
Michael had previously taught how this can improve longevity. Gyles also joked how Michael had once quipped that he has to be a doctor to appear on TV, whilst Giles just has to put on a funny jumper!
This Morning wrote to social media after the news of Dr Michael’s body being discovered: “We’re all heartbroken to hear that Michael Mosley has died at the age of 67. His wife Clare has paid tribute to her ‘wonderful, funny, kind and brilliant husband’.
“Everyone at This Morning is thinking of Clare, their four children and the rest of Michael’s family and friends at this extremely sad time.”
It comes after Michael’s wife Clare broke her silence on her husband’s tragic death. She has said in a statement: “I am incredibly proud of our children, their resilience and support over the past days. My family and I have been hugely comforted by the outpouring of love from people from around the world. It’s clear that Michael meant a huge amount to so many of you.”
