Taylor Swift may have done a lot of charitable work over the years, but she’s being called out again for her lack of environmental consciousness.
Her so-called private jet stalker recently shared that the pop star flew 178,000 miles in her jet in a single year.
Despite the singer selling one of her private jets earlier this year, computer student Jack Sweeney continues to post about the whereabouts of the remaining aircraft.
Unfazed by any potential repercussions – which has included lawsuit threats from celebs like Elon Musk and Swift herself – the 21-year-old has persisted in sharing detailed flight data, including a recent YouTube video showcasing Taylor’s flights throughout 2023.
Sweeney claimed Swift flew so much she could’ve circled the globe seven times over. While Sweeney admits to not tallying the total number of flights, he has been informed that the count exceeds 170.
“Swift’s two private jets flew 178,000 miles in 2023 equivalent to flying around the earth 7 times. emitting ~ 1200 tons of C02 in the process. That’s 83 times the average American,” he says in the video, highlight the environmental impact Swift’s decision to fly so much has.
Taylor’s Disregard For The Environment Has Been Called Out Before
Swift has been criticized before as one of the biggest carbon polluters in Hollywood. In 2022, her utilization of private jets resulted in an approximately 8,300 tonnes of carbon, a staggering figure exceeding the annual emissions of an average individual by 1,800 times.
To put this into perspective, it surpasses the average American’s emissions by 576-fold and the average European’s by a factor of about 1,000.
Numerous celebrities have come under fire for their excessive reliance on private jets, with precise statistics showcasing the environmental repercussions. In 2022, Elon Musk’s frequent use of private jets resulted in an estimated carbon footprint of over 3,500 tonnes, contributing significantly to his personal emissions.
Leonardo DiCaprio, known for his environmental advocacy, nonetheless accrued approximately 2,800 tonnes of carbon emissions through his private jet travels during the same period, sparking criticism regarding the misalignment between his public persona and personal practices.
Beyoncé, another high-profile figure, generated around 3,200 tonnes of carbon emissions from her private jet usage in 2022, drawing attention to the environmental impact of celebrity lifestyles.
Despite potential justifications for their air travel habits, such as convenience or scheduling constraints, the data underscores the disproportionate impact of celebrity lifestyles on the environment.
Taylor hasn’t responded to the controversy over the latest jet statistics, but considering she’s threatened Sweeney with a lawsuit in the past, she may take legal action again. But Sweeney has persisted in posting about Swift and other celebs, proving he wants to showcase the harm they’re doing on the environment, even if it gets him in trouble.
